Scholarship Hints

Be proactive- no one is going to track you down and give you a scholarship: you need to do the legwork yourself.  Read ‘Pirate Treasure’ to see what is available from the College Center (these are your best chances of winning because most come from the community).  Request the applications, complete them and be sure to turn them in!

Be timely!- You MUST submit your applications before the deadline and your application must be complete with all materials requested.

Be Organized!- Keep your applications in order, request letters of recommendation early and make multiple copies of each.  Be sure to have at least one teacher and one community member or coach/clergy member.

Write out your resume as many scholarships ask you to talk about yourself and your resume will help you think back on all your accomplishments and activities.

Be positive! Your odds of winning are just as good as the next student’s.  Don’t assume you won’t win after all maybe the ‘top’ student isn’t even applying to the same scholarship.
